May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Sun, 05/03/2020 - 2:26pm

Mental health refers to a person’s overall behavioral, social, emotional and psychological well-being. Mental health impacts how we think, feel, and act, including how a child feels about himself/herself, relates to other children and adults, and handles change, stress and other life situations. One in five children experience a mental, emotional or behavioral health problem before age 18. These problems affect children of all demographic groups, regardless of education, income, race or culture. The purpose of this Mental Health Month is to bring awareness and end the stigma surrounding mental health.

During these times, we are facing challenges to our mental health daily: feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, etc. It is important to find tools that work for you to help improve your mental health (writing, drawing, exercise, meditation). Check out THIS CALENDAR to find a daily activity you and your family can do to boost your mental health.  We hope you take time out of your day to try one of these tools!

SFES will host a Mental Health Awareness Spirit Week starting May 11th.  More details will be shared next week.
