Tune in Tuesday: Promoting Lifelong Readers at SFES

Mon, 10/11/2021 - 10:14am

We are excited to announce that Tune in Tuesday is BACK! One Tuesday per month starting tomorrow, October 12th, we will spotlight a new book that will be read aloud by a Mystery Reader. Families will be able to listen to the story from the comfort of their own home via GoogleMeet.
The Power of Read Alouds:

  • The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.
  • Reading aloud to children every day puts them almost a year ahead of children who do not receive daily read alouds.
  • A child’s reading level doesn’t catch up to his/her listening level until eighth grade. You can and should be reading seventh grade books to fifth grade students.
  • 66% of kids ages 6-11 say that reading together is fun.

Families will enter the GoogleMeet using their child's HCPSS username and password. GoogleMeet is best accessed through the Chrome web browser. The GoogleMeet code for each session will be: SFES-tunein  You can also click http://g.co/meet/SFES-tunein
