March 30, 2020 Update

Thu, 04/02/2020 - 10:20am

I would like to start by personally thanking you for your continued support of your child(ren), family, and community during this unprecedented time. I also would like to thank our custodial team members, Mrs. Owens, Mrs. Harris, and Mr. Johnson, for working diligently to clean and disinfect our building over the past two weeks. Furthermore, I truly appreciate our PTA leadership and members for their continued advocacy and support of all students and families.

As you may already know, our teaching staff has already started the journey of online training and learning this week. All staff will resume their ability to respond to email, and today, homeroom teachers will reach out to their classes through email to check in with students and families. Please note that today, Monday, marks the first of several steps our school system is undertaking. We acknowledge that there are many questions that families have as we move toward a digital learning model for our school system. Please know that HCPSS continues to be the driver of the Continuity of Learning timeline, and will provide teachers with specific trainings, expectations, and parameters over the next four weeks. On Friday, March 27th additional curriculum-based learning activities that families can access for students in grades K-12 were shared. With this most recent county-wide communication, I am asking families to resist the urge to ask teachers for extra materials, resources, or lessons above and beyond what our school system is already providing. HCPSS serves over 59,000 students, so it is important to transition into the continuation of learning plan in a consistent manner for all students and families.

While our transition to online learning is certainly important, I want you to know that above all else, I am thinking of you and your precious young people! I am hopeful that everyone in your care is feeling healthy and tending to their social, emotional, and mental health as best as they can. I understand that we are all facing unique challenges during this time, so please know that we are here to support you. I wish you the best, and am excited for the next phase of our journey together as a school community!
