Maryland Gifted and Talented students in public schools’ grades 5-12 are invited to participate in an essay contest: “What gifted education opportunities have meant to me”
This is your opportunity to let everyone know why gifted education is important and necessary for all high potential students in Maryland.
Rules: The annual Student Essay Contest opens on January 15, 2021. The competition is open to any Maryland public school student in grades 5-12 who now participates or has participated in special programs for gifted and talented learners.
Essay length is limited to 850 words (about three typed double-spaced pages).
Deadline for submissions is February 28, 2021. Excerpts of winning essays will be shared with the community to inform them about the importance of gifted education opportunities.
Essays should respond to all of the following questions: 1. In what ways has your school’s gifted and talented programming helped you to pursue your interests and develop your talents? 2. What are your short-term goals (in the next few years) and your long-term goals (college or career)? 3. Think about a teacher who has helped you to develop your talents. Describe how they have impacted your life. 4. Why is gifted and talented education important? How would your life be different if you had not had the opportunity to participate in gifted and talented programming?
