MISA & Climate Survey for Grade 5

Tue, 03/03/2020 - 2:05pm

Please read below about two upcoming events for our Fifth Grade Students:

Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA)

The Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA) is administered to all students in fifth grade, eighth grade, and high school every spring.  MISA will take place for our 5th grade students on March 24th, 25th, 31st and April 1st.  Parents/Guardians do not need to do anything to prepare for this assessment as all preparation will take place at school.  Parents/Guardians can help by ensuring their student has a healthy breakfast and a good night's sleep.

Please contact Mrs. Katie Carter at kathleen_carter@hcpss.org or 410-313-6900 if you have any additional questions about the MISA Assessment.

Climate Survey

Maryland requires that all public schools survey students about school climate. The purpose  is to gain valuable information about the quality and character of each school’s learning environment so schools can promote a climate that supports student learning. Fifth grade students will take the survey on March 20th. The survey will take about 30 minutes and will ask students about topics such as student engagement, the school environment, bullying, and safety.

The survey is confidential and school personnel will not have access to the responses of specific students. The responses your child provides will be combined with the responses from other students in the school, and results will be reported for each school and district.

If you have any questions about this survey, please contact the Survey Administrator at the Maryland State Department of Education by emailing to: survey.msde@maryland.gov
